100-Year-Old Fauja Singh is a Sprinter, Marathon Runner

Fauja Singh is a sprinter and marathon runner. He took up competitive running when he was 89 to overcome depression after the loss of his wife and one of his sons. Singh is the fastest 100-year-old sprinter in multiple distances. He recently set eight sprinting records, for his age group, in one day. Singh will attempt to become the first person to finish a full-distance marathon past age 100 at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon on Sunday, October 16.

Note: In 2008, Buster Martin completed the London marathon and claimed to be 101. However, he was only 94. CNN reports that Guinness World Records will recognize Fauja Singh as the world's oldest marathoner if he finishes the 26.2-mile race in Toronto on Sunday.
