Sean Avery Suspended Over Elisha Cuthbert Comments
Sean Avery, who plays for the Dallas Stars, has been suspended indefinitely for referring to his ex, Elisha Cuthbert, as "sloppy seconds." Elisha Cuthbert is now dating a hockey player who plays for a rival team, the Calgary Flames. Us Magazinesays the Dallas Stars owner supports the NHL's decision.
"I completely support the league's decision to suspend Sean Avery," Stars owner Tom Hicks said in a statement. "Had the league not have suspended him, the Dallas Stars would have. This organization will not tolerate such behavior, especially from a member of our hockey team. We hold our team to a higher standard and will continue to do so."
Avery signed a four-year, $15.5 million deal with the Stars last summer. He previously played for the New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings and Detroit Red Wings before that.
Below is the video where Avery said the line he likely now regrets in a practice session ahead of a game against Calgary - the team Cuthbert's new boyfriend plays for. His exact words were, "I just want to comment on how it's become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don't know what that's about. Enjoy the game tonight." (via TMZ)
